Virat Kohli launches the 2018 Audi RS5 high performance coupe in India

Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli is Audi’s brand ambassador. Earlier today, Kohli did the launch honours for the Audi RS5, the latest performance coupe from the German luxury and sportscar brand. The 2018 Audi RS5 is priced at Rs. 1.11 crores, ex-showroom India.

The car rivals the BMW M4 and the Mercedes Benz C63 AMG, and is imported into India as a completely built unit (CBU). This also explains why it’s so pricey. The RS5 is a car that’s meant to combine everyday usability with supercar-like performance. In other words, it’s a total enthusiast machine that can also be a family car.

The car has room for four adults in a 2+2 seating layout. However, there are only two doors, which means that it won’t really be practical as a four seater on a daily basis. Talking of performance, the car can accelerate to 100 Kph from rest in just 3.9 seconds. Now, this clearly is supercar territory.

Top speed is an electronically limited 250 Kph but the way the RS5 gets there is what makes all the difference. The car uses a 3 liter V6 petrol engine with twin turbochargers. Outputs are very high – 450 Bhp of peak power and 600 Nm of peak torque. The car uses an 8 speed automatic gearbox with tiptronic function for manual gear shifting.

Torque is transmitted to all four wheels through a Quattro all wheel drive system. The all wheel drive system also has a self locking center electronic differential that kicks in when required and makes sure that all wheels get equal traction. This, along with track tuned RS Sport suspension, gives the RS5 neutral handling. The car gets a triple stage electronic stability control and wheel selective torque control for further handling customization. Despite the car being an out and out performance car, high-tech engineering has ensured that the Audi RS5 comes with a claimed mileage figure of nearly 10 Kmpl. Now, this is one more reason why this car can be a perfect everyday machine.
