Immaculate 1977 Pontiac Trans Am Flaunts W72 Muscle, Remarkably Low Mileage

The Trans Am was already the superstar of the Firebird lineup in 1977, accounting for nearly 69,000 units of the total 155,000 cars sold this year.

Most Trans Ams rolled off the assembly lines in the standard version (non-SE) and a manual transmission.

However, there’s a good reason why the Trans Am sales went through the roof this year. The successful appearance in the Smokey and the Bandit made the Trans Am the car on everybody’s lips, so Pontiac found itself almost overnight in a position where it couldn’t align the production with the demand.

The W72 package, available for $50 on the Trans Am, was a highly desirable option. It came with a 4-barrel 400 V8 rated at 200 horsepower, becoming the most powerful choice this year. It could only be paired with an M20 transmission (the 4-speed manual gearbox) and an M40 unit (3-speed Turbo Hydramatic).

The Trans Am that caught your attention in this article left the factory with the desirable W72 powertrain, using a manual transmission to put the wheels in motion.

You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure out that this Trans Am flexes an incredible shape. The car feels like a new Trans Am that just rolled off the assembly lines, exhibiting no rust problems or any other concerns regarding the metal.

However, if you wonder how it still shines so bright after all these years, it’s worth knowing the Trans Am has already received a repaint at some point throughout its life. eBay seller shelbycuda64 doesn’t provide further specifics, but I’d like to know if the car is still original and unmolested, as a professional repaint could also be a sign that the Trans Am might have received other substantial repairs.

It’s hard to tell based on these photos if the car flexes this magic combo, but the Trans Am also comes with something else that’ll make you want it right here and now. The odometer indicates just 37,000 miles, and this time, the mileage is original. The car runs and drives, but it’s not surprising, considering the mileage.

This Trans Am has probably spent most of its life inside, becoming a desirable collectible, especially if it comes with the right answers to the questions I mentioned earlier.

Meanwhile, this Trans Am’s next objective is to find a new owner. The car made its way to eBay with this goal in mind, hoping to convince someone to pay $50K for the car. It doesn’t look like the owner will accept other offers, but considering nearly 30 people are already monitoring the listing, the chances are the Trans Am will leave for a new home shortly. It’s parked in Milford, Michigan, and can be driven to any location on its wheels
